A cidade de Pérgamo era a capital da Ásia nos tempos bíblicos do Novo Testamento sob o domínio do Império Romano. Então como capital da província romana da Ásia, Pérgamo era, sem dúvida, uma cidade importante. A cidade de Pérgamo ficava localizada sobre uma montanha de rocha com cerca de 300 metros de altitude. Aos pés da cidade ficava o grande vale fértil do rio Caico. Pérgamo estava ao norte de Éfeso, e ficava a cerca de 30 quilômetros do mar Egeu, e pouco mais de 100 quilômetros da cidade de Esmirna. COI confirmou que os atletas já classificados para os Jogos Olímpicos tem vaga assegurada. A nova data do evento será de 23 de julho a 8 de agosto de 2021 O presidente do Comitê Olímpico Internacional (COI), Thomas Bach, confirmou que os atletas que já haviam conquistado a classificação para os Jogos Olímpicos em 2020 estão automaticamente com as respectivas vagas asseguradas para 2021. “Está claro que os atletas que se qualificaram para os Jogos Olímpicos de Tóquio 2020 permanecem qualificados.
